All Progressives Congress, APC, Nasarawa State chapter, has cautioned the National President, Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, and his members against its planned protest tomorrow in order to prevent possible loss of lives as witnessed during his (Wabba) recent visit to the state.
State Chairman of the party, Mr. Philips Tatari Shekwo, who stated this at a press conference in Lafia, at the weekend, wondered why an official visit of the national president of the NLC turned into a protest by workers, hoodlums and miscreants which resulted in the death of some workers, whose families have been left without a bread winner.
He said though the party does not doubt the good intentions of the NLC president whose visit is to intervene in the face-off and broker peace and understanding between the parties involved, it however faults the manner of approach and involvement of protesters by the joint labour union on the peaceful negotiation mission.
“The essence of this press conference is to caution the national leadership of the NLC that has declared August 23 as a national protest day to commemorate the death of their colleagues. Their dead colleagues will prefer prayers and assistance to their families rather than protest that will constitute an affront and distraction to the APC administration in the state.
According to him, the governor in his magnanimity has raised funds to settle the medical bills of those hospitalised and take care of the immediate needs of the deceased’s families.’’
The state APC boss maintained that the party vehemently opposes the planned protest by the national leadership of the NLC, as it will exacerbate the problem rather than solve it.
“Labour union’s protest in the state is one too many.We view the planned protest as one borne out of mischief and in bad fate as it is intended to portray the laudable achievements of the APC administration in a bad light.’’
