Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Adekunle Oladunjoye has called on aggrieved communities in Plateau to embrace peace and work collectively towards the overall development of the state.
He said the command will partner with the media in instituting the culture of community policing where high level of professionalism will be maintained in the interest of peace and harmony in the state.
Mr. Adekunle stated this yesterday when he paid a courtesy visit to the Plateau State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists as he assumed duty in the state to replace Mr. Nasiru Oki who has proceeded on retirement.
The new CP who was a secretary at the Force Headquarters Abuja before his redeployment to Plateau, stressed that his operation in Plateau will be guided by the policy trust of the Inspector General of Police where partnership with communities is a topmost priority in order to provide effective security for Plateau people.
He noted that his call to the NUJ is in respect to the crucial role Journalists play in maintaining peace in the country which provides a platform for maximum development.
“I know so much on Plateau State today because of the way and manner in which Journalists in the state have exercised their function. I have heard and read so much about the state through your publication and that is why I am here to solicit your support in moving the state forward”
He added that “we will deal more on community policing, zero tolerance to corruption and training of personnel for efficient and professional conduct. It is my desire that Plateau State will maintain its place as “Home of Peace and Tourism” among the comity of state.
However, the NUJ Chairman, Mr. Yakubu Taddy urged the new Police Commissioner to consolidate on the robust relationship between Journalists and police on the state, and called on the Federal Government to provide basic working facilities for effective and efficient policing.
He said the state is experiencing relative peace in the last few months and urged him to work tirelessly in maintaining the existing peace in the state.
Taddy assured him of the cooperation of Journalists in the state and urged him to take advantage of their professional conduct to excel in his area of primary assignment.
