Deputy Speaker, Plateau House of Assembly, Yusuf Gagdi, has promised to sacrifice his four years salary for the development of his constituency.
Gagdi, who represents Kantana Constituency, made the pledge when the Jar youths from his constituency paid him a courtesy visit in Jos.
He said, “my constituency is the largest but the most backward of all constituencies in the Plateau; the presence of government is not felt by my people.
“It is only in Kantana constituency that there is no single kilometre of road network, no clean and potable drinking water and the sheer absence of other social amenities.
“Let me assure you my people that God helping me, by the end of my tenure, Kantana constituency will not regret having me as their representative.
“I will use my entire salary for the whole four years I will be in this assembly to provide social amenities for my people, especially sinking of boreholes in the 68 wards that make up the constituency.
“I have sacrificed my salary for the good of my people. They need a better life,’’ he said.
Gagdi described his constituents as the most loving and peaceful people on the Plateau as both Muslims and Christians live together as one family.
“People of Kantana are peaceful, accommodative, loving and very tolerant. We have no course to fight one another.
“Most families in Kantana are mixture of Muslims and Christians.
For instance, I am a Muslim, but my elder sister is a Christian, so why will I hurt her?’’ he asked.
He, however, charged the youths not to relent in preaching peace to one another in their respective communities and to other youths in the state as well.
The deputy speaker also promised to place unemployed youths in the entire Kanem local government on rotational monthly stipends.
According to him, the stipends will run for three months for each set of youths, after which another set will benefit continuously.
He promised to lobby government to situate projects in his constituency for his people to feel the impact of government.
Gagdi appealed to the youths to be patient with life as “anything done in a rush will always crash’’.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Mr Yusuf Sadique, promised to support and pray for the Deputy Speaker to successfully discharge his legislative functions.
Sadique, however, appealed to the lawmaker not to fail the youths and the entire people of the constituency because the deputy speaker was a youth himself.
