Due to high level of drug consumption, Jos North Local Government of Plateau state has stated that it would soon partner with the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, to curb drug abuse among youths in the area.
Director of Personal Management of the Council, Samuel Lohlum , stated this in a chat with our correspondent in Jos at the weekend.
According to him, “we are working to constitute a taskforce to enforce laws against the processing, trafficking and use of hard drugs and also to empower the taskforce to investigate persons suspected to have dealings in drugs and other related matters”.
He said the local government would soon collaborate with NDLEA and other security operatives to curtail the consumption of drugs and ‘goskolo’ in the LGA.
“We have to rise to the challenges in fighting drug abuse and the consumption of `goskolo’ drink amongst our youths.
“Many of these youths are dying and some are wasting away. As elders and leaders of this council, we should save them from self destruction,” he stated.
