The suspected kidnappers had abducted the newly appointed transition committee chairman while fleeing from Jos to Keffi, Nasarawa state.
Our correspondent gathered that the LGA boss was kidnapped on Friday night at Miango road, Kufang, Jos south local government area, and may have been murdered sometime yesterday.
A source told Nigerian Pilot Sunday that the politician died alongside some of the suspected kidnappers who abducted him after the car in which they were driving him got involved in an accident in Keffi, Nasarawa State.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abuh Emmanuel, confirmed the development to our correspondent in Jos, stressing that the politician was abducted and whisked away by his kidnappers who may have ran into a fatal accident.
“I am waiting for detailed information from the DPO in charge of the area with a view to getting details of what actually transpired,” he said, adding that issues of kidnapping and other serious criminal activities are best handled with care.
Another family source said two of the suspects, who suffered serious injuries in the accident, confessed to the crime while receiving treatment in an unnamed hospital.
It could be recalled that the late Mr Azi was sworn-in as the transition committee chairman of Jos east on Thursday.
