A 29-year unemployed man, Zakcus Amos, was on Wednesday arraigned at a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly stealing a motor battery valued at N13,000

The accused, whose address is unknown, was arraigned on a one count charge of stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Innocent Uko, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 26 at Agric. Area, Ajara, Badagry.


Uko said that the battery belonged to the complainant in the case, Mr Babatunde Ajose.

“The complainant packed his car along the street and went to see a friend but didn’t know he was being trailed by the accused.

“When the accused thought that no one was seeing him, he went to the car, opened it and removed the battery but he was caught by a security man,’’ he said.

He said that the offence contravened section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Mr Wale Adebayo, counsel to the accused, pleaded with the court to grant bail to his client on liberal terms.

The Magistrate, Mr Abiodun Etti, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N50, 000 and a surety who must provide evidence of tax payment to the state government.

Etti adjourned the case till July 1 for further hearing. (NAN)
