Police arrest three for raping 16-year-old girl in Ogun



Police in Ogun have arrested three young men for allegedly gang-raping a 16-year-old girl in Ifo Local Government Area of the state.


The three suspects, Oliwaseun Damilohun, 20, Oriyomi Damilohun, 19, and Oliwaseun Idowu, 18, were arrested following a complaint by one Alumni Olasunkanmi, an administrative officer of So-Safe Corps, at Ifo Police Station


The state Police public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement in Abeokuta, said that the So-Safe officer reported that while the victim went to take her bath at Odo-Apata, at Pata Village in Ifo LG at about 10am, the three suspects ambushed her and forcefully dragged her to a nearby bush where they took turn to rape her


The PPRO expressed further that while  they were gang raping the teenage girl, one of the suspects took his phone and started recording the sexual act with the aim of using the video to threatened the victim should she make attempt to report the case to anyone.


Oyeyemi said that upon report, the DPO in Ifo, CSP Adeniyi Adekunle, led his detectives to the scene with some So Safe Corps members where the suspects were promptly arrested.


He added that they had all confessed to have committed the crime to the commission, while the victim has been taken to hospital for medical treatment.


Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, has directed the immediate transfer of the suspects to the anti-human trafficking and child labour unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.


The CP also appeal to parents to warn their children and wards to desist from any form of anti-social behaviour as the command under his watch will not spare anyone caught in such vices.
