Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a Corporal, Aliah Yusuf, attached to the Command by unknown Gunmen.
The state deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Ejike Emmanuel on Thursday said Yusuf was shot by unknown gunmen who trailed him to his residence at Ugwuachara within the state capital.
The command described the incident as ugly and stated that it has since swung into action to fish out the culprits.
The deputy Police spokesman said;“the incident was an ugly one. The Commissioner of Police got the report of the incident with shock. But the investigation department is on top of the situation to apprehend the perpetrators.
“Yusuf was killed and was dispossessed of his gun. He was supposed to go to his beat in Izzi. Officially, we normally convey our officers down to their various security posts .But before then, he went to his house to prepare ahead of the night duty when the gunmen trailed him to an isolated area and shot him dead.
“When the incident was reported to the police, a team of mobile men and a divisional patrol team went down to the area but what they met was his body lying down helplessly and he was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead. The two gunmen we learnt were wearing masks”.
A source told Nigerian Pilot that the gunmen were said to have trailed the Corporal and short him severally and fled, making passersby to scamper for safety and to evade Police arrest.
The source further added that residents around the scene of the ugly event have fled for fear arrest by uniform men.
As at press time Police have taken over the area and it was not clear the number of people that have been arrested.
