Anambra State Police Command has discovered and evacuated four corpses in a house along Olisa Onyeka Crescent, Commissioner’s Quarters, Ifite Awka.
The police team led by the Commissioner of Police, Hosea Karma alongside some morticians with an ambulance, invaded the room in a two storey building in the morning of last Tuesday.
The police on arrival broke the door of the room and discovered four corpses.
The four ladies reportedly died on Saturday night in the room without bruises or attack from anyone.
Among the dead ladies was the owner of the room and a staff of Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, Awka, Mrs. Chinwe Obi.
The land lady of the house, Ify Onyebumuo told newsmen yesterday that she was contacted on phone by one of the tenants saying they were looking for the deceased since Saturday.
The land lady revealed that the deceased had lived in the building for 11months.
Also speaking, the caretaker of the house, Barrister Machie Ignatius said he was also contacted on phone by some tenants who told him they suspected that some people were lying dead in that room.
When the Commissioner of Police was contacted, he confirmed the death of the four persons and noted that they got the information when some tenants of the building alerted police that they perceived repulsive odour oozing out from the room and it was suspected that some people had died in there.
Karma further said that the other three women whose identities had not been ascertained were likely to be her church members who came to sympathise with her over the death of her husband.
The CP also said the death might not be unconnected with suffocation from generator smoke or food poisoning, stressing that the police discovered a generator set and a remnant pot of soup in the room.
However, he disclosed that the soup as well as their bodies had been taken to mortuary for examination.
