Enugu state Police Command has released two additional distress call numbers to member of the public as part of the measures the new Commissioner of Police, CP, Abubakar Adamu Mohammed has put in place to curtail delays in police arrival at crime scenes.
The commissioner has also created a new police division in the Enugu East to make police services more accessible to residents of the inner city.
To be known as Unity Police Division, with its headquarters at Iyioku, Ibagwa Nike, along Opi Nsukka-Ugwuogo Nike road, the new division will cover Ibagwa, Amokpo, Edem, Amoji, Ogbeke, Mbano and Ugwuogo Nike all of which were formerly under Abakpa Division.
The new police distress numbers are 08033618584 and 08053322333 while the old ones are 0803200372,08075390883 and 08186671202.
According to Mr. Ebere Amarizu, the Police Public Relations Officer for Enugu, the new measures are aimed “towards taking policing to the rural populace for a safe and secure environment”.
Amarizu also assured that the all police divisions in the state command has directed all police divisions to keep their distress call numbers open and display such numbers in places where visitors to the stations would see them without difficulty.
The police, Amarizu stated have also opened email and twitter social media platforms, through which members of the public can relay information to the police on crime and other security issues.
