OPERATIVES of Ebonyi State Police Command have at the weekend killed two armed robbery suspects during an exchange of gunfire.
The unidentified gunmen had launched an attack at the Abakaliki Rice Mill along old Ogoja Road, Abakaliki, where they dispossessed a couple of N250, 000 they realised after selling their rice.
The robbers also went into the mechanic village beside the rice mill and attacked a scrap dealer, before they were confronted by some policemen who arrived the scene following a distress call put to them.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP George Okafor said “when we received distress call, our men were immediately drafted to the area.
“On sighting policemen, the hoodlums opened fire on them and the policemen responded. The robbers were later overpowered and were gunned down.”
He disclosed that part of the amounts was recovered by the police at the end of the gun battle and that the pistol which the hoodlums used in the robbery was also recovered.
Okafor warned criminals to run away from the state or be ready to meet their waterloo, and appealed to the people to continue to volunteer information on the activities of criminals to the police.
