Plateau State Police Command has said it lost 15 police men in the course of performing their duties in 2015.
Commissioner of Police in the state, Adekunle Oladunjoye stated this yesterday while briefing newsmen at the state police headquarters in Jos.
According to him “The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase in his magnanimity in rewarding and motivating officers and men of the force has graciously promoted 1024 of the Plateau State command in the year 2015. Similarly, the IG has offered scholarship award to six children of police officers and men studying in various police schools in Plateau state.”
Meanwhile, the state police commissioner also paraded a man who allegedly poisoned his four-year-old son, Bwesaf Palony, to death with poisonous DD force insecticide.
The CP said, “The suspect during interrogation confessed to the crime and will soon be arraigned in court.”
Similarly, police detectives from the SCID investigating the case of infanticide transferred by Operation Safe Haven, Jos, on December 15, 2015, arrested one Miss Salome Samuel of Shonong village in Riyom LGA of the state, who threw her baby down from a storey building.
During interrogation, the suspect was said to have confessed to have been impregnated by one Francis Salu, an army officer attached to Makera Base Riyom, but was transferred to a place unknown to her.
According to the suspect, when she was in labour she delivered the baby in an open place near her boy friend’s room, and the baby died instantly.
She stated further that she had no option than to throw down the dead baby through the window of the building.
The police commissioner hinted that investigation into the case “has been completed and as soon as the court resumes, the suspect will be arraigned.”
Also, police operatives have arrested one Sohnan Sunday of Wase LGA, who stabbed one Garba Vondung to death during a fight that ensured between them.
It was gathered that the suspect visited his wife, Chanchit Sohnan, in her father’s house at Wase to persuade her to return to her matrimonial home, which she deserted in May 2015 as a result of misunderstanding between them.
But unfortunately, the suspect met the wife and the deceased (Garba Vondung ) making love in her house on that faithful day. Consequently, the suspect stabbed the deceased to death during the scuffle.
The police also informed that the case would be charged to court as soon as investigations were concluded.
CP Oladunjoye also said that “26 arms were recovered in 2015, 1000 ammunition recovered and 29 armed robbery suspects were arrested while 29 robbery cases are under investigation.”
He also said 77 robbery cases were recorded in the year and 22 suspects arrested are while 77 are under investigation.
“37 cases of culpable homicide were recorded while 10 of the suspects were arrested. 5 rape cases were also recorded.”
