MEN OF the Kaduna State Police Command have arrested 34 persons who exhumed seized poultry products destroyed and buried by the Nigeria Customs Service in the state last Thursday.
It would be recalled that Federal Operating Unit, FOU Zone ‘B’ of The Nigerian Customs Service, NCS destroyed 6,000 cartoons of imported poultry products worth about N35 million.
Speaking to newsmen shortly before the suspected persons were paraded by the Kaduna State Police Command PRO, DSP Zubairu Abubakar, PRO of the Nigerian Customs Service, FOU, Kaduna, Ado Idris said unfortunately some Nigerians who were fully aware of the toxicity of the poultry products went to the site to exhume them to eat and sell to members of the public.He called on members of the public to be weary of these poultry products, because they are not in anyway fit for human consumption as they are toxic.
Parading the suspects, Police Public Relations Officers, DSP Zubairu Abubakar said the 34 suspects were arrested at the dumping site and will be charged to court for consumption and sales of toxic and adulterated foods.
The PPRO also called on the public to be weary of where they purchase their frozen foods, alerting that three vehicles loaded with the exhumed toxic chickens and turkeys were already taken into the town.
One of the suspects, Haliru Musa said that they were seated at the motor park when they saw people passing with cartons of chickens, and they decided to join too.
