Five armed robbery suspects, three of whom are notorious robbery syndicates believed to be specialists in trailing unsuspecting victims from banks and robbing them of the cash they have withdrawn, have been apprehended by the police operatives in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT-Abuja.
The suspected bank robbers, Augustine John (40), Ronald Mathew (30) and Ifeanyi Nna (25), believed to have come from Kaduna state, were arrested by the police operatives after they trailed and broke into the parked car of their victim, with the aid of fabricated master key, and attempted to do away with the cash he had withdrawn from the bank.
Parading the suspects at the FCT police command headquarters, Garki, spokesman for the command, ASP Anjuguri J. Manzah, said the suspects were arrested in a grey colour Toyota Sienna mini bus with registration no. RSH 913 MW, with 4 fabricated master keys, one bunch of house keys, dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, and a mixed liquid substance.
ASP Manzah said, “On January 26, Police operatives attached to Maitama Division busted and arrested members of a notorious robbery syndicate that specialise in trailing their unsuspecting victims from banks and robbing them of the cash they have withdrawn. The suspects who came from Kaduna state were arrested by the Police operatives after they trailed and broke into the parked car of their victim, with the aid of fabricated master key, and attempted to do away with the cash he had withdrawn from the bank. Preliminary investigation reveals that two members of the syndicate, Augustine John and Ronald Nna are renowned for their involvement in one chance robbery.
In another case, the police arrested a handbag snatcher, a 27 year old Godwin Edith Samson with one i-tel phone, 100 kenyan shillings, and N6,000.00.
The PPRO said, “On 15/01/16, about 10:30pm, the above named suspect was arrested by Police operatives attached to Wuye Division at City gate Airport after he snatched the handbag of his female victim and attempted to escape. He was however arrested by the Police patrol team after the victim raised an alarm. The suspect has confessed to the offence.
The police also arrested a notorious house breaker, Raphael Martins, and recovered some stolen property such as house breaking implements, two 55 inches plasma TV, 2 standing fans, one air conditioner, home theatre, one refrigerator, 3 DVD players, 6 electric irons, a box containing assorted male & female perfumes, 3 mini digital camera, one mini video camera, and other appliances.
“On 24/01/16, acting on intelligence on the escapade of a notorious house breaker who specialises in breaking into his victim’s homes and shops around Lugbe axis and carting away valuables, Police operatives attached to Lugbe Division launched a massive man-hunt for the suspect which paid off and led to his arrest. The suspect was arrested after he broke into the house of one of his victims, at Corner shop Federal Housing Lugbe, and attempted carted away some electronics in the house. The suspect while confessing to the crime said his operation is mostly at night”, ASP Manzah revealed.
The PPRO said the Commissioner of Police, CP Wilson Inalegwu has ordered the Command’s teams of investigators to commence thorough investigation into the cases. “The suspects will all be charged to court on completion of investigation,” he explained.
