The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 47 year old fake lawyer, Adeleye Balogun in Ado Odo Ota local government area of the state.

According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, the fake lawyer had paraded himself and practiced in the area for more than a decade.

The arrest, according to the PPRO was made on Monday by detectives attached to Ota Division of the command after a complaint by a victim of the fake lawyer.

It was said that the victim whose name was not made public was duped to the tune of N140, 000 before reporting same to the Divisional Police Officer in the local government.

It was further revealed that one of the top legal practitioners in the state whose name was also not made available briefed the police about criminal antecedents of Balogun.

The lawyer, according to Adejobi, advised the police to widen their scope of investigation which later led to the confession of Balogun.

The police source said, “The Police detectives attached to Otta  Division of the Command made the arrest on Monday when a complainant reported the suspect to the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Otta Division for duping him of some amount of money to the tune of N140,000.

“While the police detectives were on with their interrogation, one of the revered legal practitioners in the area alerted the police of the suspect’s criminal antecedents and urged the police to widen the scope of their interrogation.

“Hence the confession of Ayodele Balogun, who has been practicing at a popular chamber in Otta for a decade, to be a fake legal practitioner.”

The PPRO said the state Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali had directed a thorough investigation into the matter with a view of unraveling other accomplices in the matter.

The details of the investigation is also to be sent to the Nigerian Bar Authority and other concerned bodies while the suspects are charged to court without delay.

“The suspect and others, who might be indicted in the course of police investigation, be charged to court without delay and his (their) details be sent to the Nigerian Bar Association and other concerned groups/bodies for necessary action.

“The Police Boss has expressed disappointment in some individuals who engage themselves in nefarious activities and dupe innocent Nigerians of their hard earned incomes,” the PPRO said.
