EFFORTS of the Nigeria Police, Enugu State Command to rid the state of crime and criminal elements have paid off as no fewer than seventeen suspects including females were nabbed by the command’s operatives of the Anti Cult Unit in the ongoing Enugu State police command onslaught against hoodlums tagged ‘Operation Flush out hoodlums’ which is aimed at making our environment safe and secured. The seventeen suspects, according to police information unit, who have been a thorn on the flesh of members of the public in relation to their armed robbery/ cult activities were arrested by the operatives at Nkanu west local Government Area Axis of the state through intelligence information gathered. Suspects who gave their names as follows Nnamani Chinonso 18 years of Obeagu Agbani ,Nnamani Ekene ,Ani Chidera,Ogbu Chinenye,Friday Anih,Nnamani Daberechi,Nweke Frank,Nwoye Chigozie,Eze Chidera,Ede Ifeanyi,Chukwu C h u k w u e b u k a , E j i m monday,Nwatu Samuel, were nabbed over their alleged involvement in cult related activities/unlawful possession of firearms and robbery amongst others. Items recovered from the suspects include 2 short double barrel locally made guns,2 short single locally made guns, One long locally made single barrel gun,22 live cartridges and cartridge host. Others suspects apprehended include Emmanuel Udofia,Onyedikachi Maduekwe,Onyekachi Ejike and Okenwa Emmanuel. They were nabbed for conspiracy/armed robbery. Recovered from the suspects are one locally made barretta pistol,one locally made revolver pistol, 3 rounds of .9mm ammunition. All the suspects were nabbed within Agbani Axis of Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu state on September 5, 2016 and they are helping the operatives in their investigation. Suspects in their response blamed their involvement in the alleged crimes to satanic influence and prayed for second chance to be given them. Reacting the state commissioner of police Emmanuel Ojukwu commended the efforts of his operatives and the partnership that exists between the state police command, the public and other sister security agencies in the state which led to the arrest of suspects. Ojukwu re-iterated that the command would continue to engage itself in the onslaught against crime and criminality in the state through various proactive policing programme and especially, the state police command’s programme on cultism and other vices otherwise known as POCACOV to ensure that youth are well sensitized. He also frowned at the situation of youth involvement in cultism and other vices without knowing its negative implications and advised them to watch the kind of friends they keep.
