Oyo State Police Command yesterday in Ibadan paraded a 60-year-old herbalist, Tajudeen Awoniyi, for defiling his two teenage daughters, Barakat, Sefiat, and two other minors who are his nieces.
Awoniyi was said to have been apprehended in Akinyele area of Ibadan by the Oyo State Police Command where he was said to have committed the crime.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Katsina while addressing journalists yesterday, said Awoniyi was arrested after sleeping with his nieces who passed a night in his apartment.
CP Katsina noted that Awoniyi gave traditional black soap to the teenage girls around 1am with which the girls bath on the day the crime was committed.
He thereafter allegedly slept with each of them separately.
The mother girls, Jelilat Olayiwola, 35, who had travelled to Lagos on the day the crime was committed, called the police after discovering that her daughters were behaving abnormally.
One of the suspects’ daughters, Barakat, 15, who confirmed that her father actually slept with the two girls, also said that her father had developed the habit of sleeping with her and her sister after getting drunk.
She said they could not raise the alarm because he threatened to punish them severely. She also said that their mother left the house when they were very young.
Similarly, her sister, Sefiat, 14, confirmed her father’s incest. She said he started sleeping with her last year also.
She alleged that Awoniyi used juju before he could sleep with her and that like her sister, she was a virgin before the incident.
She emphasised that “baba woke us around 1am on that day and said we should use black soap to bath. We did and after that, he put something in his mouth and slept with us separately.”
Police said doctor’s report indicated that the girls had been infected with sexually transmitted disease.
In his defence, Awonoiyi said he gave the girls the soap but did not sleep with them and his daughters. He said he was being framed up by his brother because of a family disagreement.
