Oyo state Police Command yesterday paraded a masquerade over an alleged incitement of followers to destroy people’s property during the Egungun Festival in Ibadan, Oyo state capital.
The masquerade known ‘Ogunmola masquerade’ custodian one Sikiru Oyewale was paraded at Eleyele police state’s headquarters in Ibadan before the journalists.
While addressing the journalists on behalf of the commissioner of police CP, Muhammed Katsina, the police Public Relation Officer Adekunle Ajisebutu, disclosed that command had earlier summoned a peace meeting to discuss the modality for ensuring peace during the Egungun festival in Ibadan and Oyo state in general.
He said in spite of the earlier warning, Sikiru, the custodian from Afenimodo compound caused total breakdown of law and order in Ayeye Area of Mapo and was apprehended by the nearby police officer.
The PPRO seized the opportunity to declare the other fleeing members of Ogumola masquerade wanted.
One of the ‘Ogunmola Masquerade’ victims who gave his name as Kunle Ayoniyaye said he was called upon by his friends that his Mercedes car had been destroyed by Ogunmola Masquerade.
But reacting , Sikiru Oyewale denying the allegation levelled against him said the Oyo police commanded did not grant his masquerade to perform, adding that the Masquerade celebration was held indoors.
In the same vein, the command also paraded two members of a gang that specialised in duping members of the public by pretending to offer spiritual assistance.
The suspects, Adebayo Saheed and Bello Mustapha caught with a piece of human skull, 900 fake dollars and some criminal charms and got arrested by the Ambush Squad of the command.
