A middle aged man alleged to be a 419 kingpin hacking into top government officials bank accounts through the use of social network (facebook) to defraud them of their money was among the six suspected criminals paraded by the Ondo State Police Command at the weekend.
The suspect simply identified as Daniel Obasi of No 1 Zion Street, Port-Harcourt, River State was paraded with five other suspected criminals alleged to have been involved in various offences ranging from armed robbery to kidnapping among other crimes.
Parading the suspects before newsmen at the Police Headquarter along Igbatoro road in Akure, the State Police Commissioner, Mr. Mike Ogbodu told reporters that the suspected fraudster specialize in impersonating and hacking into the government officials’ accounts to dupe them.
He explained that Obasi was nabbed by officials of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, SCIID of Ondo State Police Command following a tip off.
According to the police boss the suspect has some accomplices assisting him in the illegal businesses, adding that efforts were on to track down the members of the gang.
Ogbodu also informed the journalist that the police has arrested a prime suspect identified as Lucky Akinnuoye and Adegbayi Akinmusayo, manager of a hotel in Ore, Ogidigbo Local Government Area of the state who was alleged to have conspired with others to kidnap a Chinese National, Jiang Peng aka Ginger (25).
On the foiled armed robbery attempt to United Bank of Africa, UBA, along Ado/Owo Road last week, the Police boss said some suspected robbers were alleged to have dug a 10-meter hole behind the bank in an attempt to rob it.
He said it was police on surveillance that discovered the tunnel and consequently foiled the robbery.
The Police commissioner, who conducted journalists round the premises of the bank show them shovels, diggers and other tools used for the digging which were recovered by the police.
Ogbodu however assured the bank authorities that adequate security measure have been put in place to guarantee the safety of the workers and customers coming to transact business in the bank.
The Police Commissioner paraded other suspected criminals assuring that members of the gangs who were at large will be arrested and be made to face the consequences of their criminal activities.
