The Nigerian Police, Enugu state command through its operatives of the Ogui Division, Enugu metropolis, have commenced a serious investigation to get to the root of an alleged robbery involving a cashier in one of the local governments in the state.
According to the Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, in a release made available to Nigerian Pilot, one Chukwuani Valentine believed to be working with the Oji River local Government council of the state, now in police custody, claimed that robbers on Friday attacked him and collected the sum of N3 million meant for staff salaries.
Chukwuani believed to be a cashier with the said council told the Police that he had gone to a new generation bank located at Rangers Avenue in Enugu where he allegedly withdrew the sum of 3million Naira being money meant for salaries and allowances of some staff of the local government which according to him was to be paid cash.
He further claimed that after the withdrawal, he split the money into two and placed them differently inside his personal car and drove off but that at Lagos Street within Ogui axis, a spider car green in colour blocked him and four men armed with gun accosted him and ordered him to give them the money.
He said he cooperated in fear by releasing the first bag to them adding that they forced him at gun point to also let go the second bag before they disappeared with the money.
Amaraizu disclosed that the state command of the Nigeria police Force has urged members of the public on the need to be security conscious especially whenever they make substantial financial transaction.
