Delta State Police Command has rescued Chief Ijeh Christopher from his abductors at Oraifite in Anambra State after a gun duel, just as two kidnapped victims were rescued at Agbarho, Delta State.
Also, N554,000 believed to be part of the ransom of N2 million collected by the hoodlums for the release of a victim was recovered.
Confirming the incident yesterday in Asaba, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Celestina Kalu, said on November 18, one Chief Ijeh Christopher was abducted by unknown people at Ogwashi-Uku in Delta State.
DSP Kalu added; “on November 27, detectives attached to the Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad, SAKS, Asaba, acting on a tip-off stormed the criminals’ hideout at Oraifitie in Anambra State where the hoodlums on sighting the detectives engaged them in a gun duel.
“In the process, one of the kidnappers identified as Ifeanyi (surname unknown) was shot and arrested alongside one Onyeka Anyanwu ‘m’, Okoh Kaogwashie ‘m’, Emeka Okolie ‘m’ and his wife, Loveth Emeka Okolie ‘f’. The injured suspect was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre Asaba for treatment and was later confirmed dead.
“The sum of N554,000 believed to be part of the ransom of N2 million collected by the hoodlums for the release of a victim was recovered from Loveth Emeka Okolie,” she disclosed.
Similarly, DSP Kalu said on November 22, one Chief Edore Agba ‘m’ and Daniel Fole ‘m’ were kidnapped at Ughelli by unknown gunmen.
She stated that “on November 26 at 11:45hrs, a combined team of detectives from ‘A’ Division Ughelli and local vigilante acting on a tip-off, stormed the kidnappers’ hideout, an uncompleted building a Agbarho and arrested one Jones Daniel ‘m’, aged 22 of No. 22 Ughelli road, Agbarho, while his cohorts escaped.”
She listed the items recovered from the suspects to include two live cartridges, adding that the two victims were rescued during the process.
She, however, noted that investigation was ongoing while efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects have been intensified.
