Operatives of Anti Kidnapping Unit, Enugu State Police Command, have successfully rescued a kidnapped victim unhurt.
According to a press release from the public relations unit of the command, the victim was reportedly abducted on July 2, 2015.
It was gathered that following an intelligence report to the operatives, they swung into action promptly and were able to track the victim and suspects at Abunuzu/Imezi Owa forest in Ezeagu Local Government Area of the state, where a confrontation ensued between the operatives and the hoodlums by which they were overpowered by the operatives.
Having been subdued, the suspects then guided the operatives to the spot where the victim was held hostage and possibly awaiting for payment of ransom.
The victim whose name was not disclosed however was rescued unhurt.
The suspects, who gave their names as Umaru Abubakar, Iya Bello, Ruwa and another one who could not give his name, are helping the operatives in connection with the alleged crime as well as various acts of kidnapping and armed robbery along Enugu Onitsha Highway.
Recovered from the suspects in the forest included one English made pump action long gun, one double barrel locally made long gun, two single barrel locally made gun, one locally made short gun and 25 live cartridges.
In a related development, one Onyeka Okonkwo of Ibagwa Nike village of Enugu State and Igbokwe Onyekwere of Umuchigbo Iji Nike all in Abakpa of Enugu who allegedly specialised in wrecking havoc on members of the public in relation to armed robbery, as well as other related criminal activities within Abakpa and its environs, have been nabbed by the operatives of the Anti Kidnapping Unit of the command.
Recovered from the suspects included a golf car with registration number AGU 987 TP and assorted phones which suspects used in luring their target victims out.
