Enugu State command of the Nigeria Police Force through its operatives of the Counter Terrorism Unit has smashed a notorious armed robbery syndicate Tuesday in the early hours after a gun duel between the operatives and the hoodlums who dressed in camouflage.
It was gathered that the police operatives of the Counter Terrorism Unit of the command on duty along Enugu -Markurdi Road, Nsukka axis, received a distress call that armed hoodlums had blocked Nsukka- Markurdi Road by Inyi in Igboeze North local Government Area and were wrecking havoc on their victims.
It was also gathered that following the distress call, operatives swung into action promptly which resulted to the exchange of fire and in the process, one of the armed hoodlums was fatally injured and later died. While the other armed hoodlum identified as Godwin Okpe from Ogbadigbo Local Government Area of Benue State, dressed in camouflage who was also fatally injured is being treated to aid operatives in their investigation.
According to a release from the police public relations unit, others believed to have been touched by the operatives bullet escaped with bullet wounds.
Items recovered from the hoodlums include their heavy logs of wood used in blocking the highway, two double barrel guns fabricated to double as AK 47 riffle, sum amount of money believed to have been robbed from their victims, a pair of boot and torchlight amongst others.
Meanwhile the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ojukwu has applauded the effort of his operatives and maintained that the command will continue to maintain a functional security for members of the public as well as motorists along the road.
