Police in Rivers State said it is set to destroy some explosive materials in its possession.
A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Muhammad said the explosives belonged to Halliburton Oil Services Company.
According to him, the destruction will take place on Thursday this week at the Police Training College, Nonwa in Tai local government area of the state by its Anti-Bomb Unit. He called on people in the area not to panic in case they hear any sound within the period.
“Rivers State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that approval has been granted to Halliburton Oil Services Company to render safe/destroy some explosive materials in its fold which were examined and found to be expired.
“The exercise will be executed by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit otherwise known as Anti-Bomb Squad of the Command on Thursday 17/12/2015 and Friday 18/12/2015 between 8:00am – 4:00pm daily at the Police Training School, Nonwa-Tai.
“Members of the public particularly residents of Nonwa-Tai are hereby enjoined not to panic should they hear the deafening sounds from the exercise”, the statement read.
