Delta State Police Command has appealed to residents of the state to continue to maintain peace amongst themselves and report all suspicious characters within their environment to security agents, to enable them fight against all forms of criminalities.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Alkali Baba Usman who made the appeal yesterday in Asaba while showcasing some of the command’s achievements in combating crime in the last few weeks, assured members of the public of the command’s continued efforts at ensuring safety of lives and property.
Usman disclosed that the police had arrested 12 armed robbery suspects/kidnappers, killed eight armed robbery/kidnappers at gun duel and recovered 10 locally made guns from suspected armed bandits across the state.
He added that 31 cartridges, six stolen vehicles and four pump action guns had been recovered from suspected hoodlums in the state.
According to the CP, “On 17th May, 2015, at about 0750hrs, SARS operatives based at Warri, while acting on a tip off arrested one Godspower Presley ‘m’, Ovie Tega ‘m’ and Peter Gwagwa ‘m’ in connection with armed robbery cases under investigation. The suspects have admitted
their membership of a robbery gang, and have confessed robbing one Mrs. Rukevwe (surname unknown) of the sum of N500,000 on 15th May, 2015, at about 0530hrs at Film Hall junction, Ovwian.”
Alkali stated that the suspects are undergoing investigation.
