Twenty-eight years old, police corporal, Aremu Museliu, who allegedly killed mother of four at Isheri-Oshun, Lagos, was on Friday, was charged before an Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrate’s on two charges bordering on murder and causing grievous body harm.
The 28-year-old Corporal, attached to Isheri-Oshun Police Division, is alleged to have killed late Comfort Godwin Sunday and wounding her husband, Godwin Sunday, with his official rifle, AK 47, at Ijegun area of the state, on September 16, 2015, at about 8:00 p.m.
The offences according to the prosecutor, Barrister Godwin Osuyi, are punishable under sections 221 and 243 of the criminal laws of Lagos state of Nigeria, 2011.
Count one of the charges reads: “That you Aremu Museliu, on the 16 day of September, 2015, at about 2000 hours, at Ijagun, Isheri-Oshun, Lagos, in the LaGuardia magisterial district, did unlawfully killed on Comfort Godwin Sunday, by shooting her AK47, and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 221 of the criminal laws of Lagos Sstate of Nigeria, 2011.”
The accused plea was not taken.
The prosecutor appealed that the accused officer be remanded pending an advice from the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP.
Consequently, the presiding Chief Magistrate Afolashade Botoku ordered that the accused be remanded for the next 30 days, and ordered the prosecutor to duplicate the case file and forward it to the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP.
The matter has been adjourned till October 19.
