A mobile policeman attached to the security outfit ‘Fast Strike Squad’ in Ondo State was stabbed to death by his wife, following a domestic disagreement.
According to the police, Inspector Israel Omowa’s domestic fight with his wife ended on a tragic note when the woman, Wumi, allegedly stabbed him on the neck with a kitchen knife.
The incident happened at Olowolagba Street, off Olufoam area, off the Akure–Owo highway.
Police report indicated that during the quarrel which later degenerated into exchange of blows, the woman allegedly went for a kitchen knife with which she stabbed him on the neck.
It was learnt that the deceased started bleeding profusely before the suspect raised an alarm that attracted neighbours who rushed him to a private hospital in the area where he finally gave up the ghost.
The police who had earlier been alerted about the unfortunate incident arrested the suspect and detained her at Ijapo Divisional Police Station for interrogation.
Confirming the report, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP, Femi Joseph, said the deceased died as a result of massive loss of blood resulting from the deep out on his neck which was sustained during the fight.
The PPRO disclosed that the deceased was attached to Mopol 17 of the Mobile Police Force in Akure and was a member of Fast Track Squad.
Joseph said the police are currently investigating the matter in order to unravel the actual cause of the domestic squabble.
He added that the suspect has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, CIID, for in-depth investigation.
The remains of the deceased had since been deposited at Akure Specialist Hospital while investigation is still in progress.
The police image maker, who described the incident as unfortunate, advised the general public to learn how to resolve their differences without resorting to violence.
According to him, life is precious and nobody wants to lose it, saying the police as an institution can settle issues between parties amicably.
