Politicians in Kogi have expressed happiness with the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for the Kogi and Bayelsa governorship elections.
In separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN in Lokoja on Monday, members of the two major political parties, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP and the All Progressive Congress, APC commended the INEC for the timetable.
An executive member of the PDP in the state, Mr Joseph Iginla, said the long-awaited timetable was very good and would help them to strategise for the poll.
“We in the PDP have started working out modalities on how to go about the campaigns to win the election,’’ he said.
Another PDP stalwart, Mr Segun Ogunlana, who said the timetable came at the right time, called on the party faithful to stay with it in the run up to the election.
The Woman Leader of the party, Mrs Esther Adedoyin, expressed the hope that the incumbent governor would be given a second tenure to consolidate on his achievements in the past four years.
Also reacting, a youth leader of the APC, Mr Sunday Aledare, noted that the election should have come up by January 2016 as time was needed for consultations and campaigns.
“In line with the trend of the just concluded March-April general elections, l am optimistic that change will finally come to Kogi,’’ he said.
Another APC member, Mrs Ojoma Adamu, urged the APC to harmonise its home to win the election.
“The timetable is a good and if there is harmony within the party there will be success,’’ she said.
Also reacting, anther APC faithful, Mr Yakubu Isah, commended INEC for releasing the timetable as it would enable the party to plan for its campaign.
A member of the electorate, Mrs Remi Obanla, called on the people to vote for candidates that would develop the state and shun money politics.
“This change we are clamouring for will not be visible if they do not vote candidates with good intensions for the state,’’ Obanla said.
