Political office holders in the country have been charged to always remember the needy in the society and to see their election as a call to serve humanity.
Barrister Sakiru Omolaja, made the charge at the symposium organised by a political group, The Nucleus Group, TNG, in commemoration of Senator Olugbenga Bareehu Ashafa’s 60th birthday, held during the week in Lagos.
Barr Omolaja, who was the guest speaker at the symposium, while speaking on the theme; “service to humanity: a lesson in social responsibility”, charged elected office holders and Nigerians in general, to always use whatever God endowed them with in serving humanity.
The organisers of the symposium, the TNG said the event was to honour the senator who has contributed in numerous ways for the development of humanity in the senatorial district.
TNG charged other elected officers to emulate Senator Ashafa by empowering the electorate in their districts so as to reduce poverty level in the country.
Also speaking at the symposium, the group’s District Coordinator in Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area, Evangelist Olusegun Famoritade, used the occasion to appeal to Senator Ashafa on the deplorable state of road in Agbede community of Ikorodu local government area.
Evangelist Famoritade, while commending Senator Ashafa for moving the motion for construction of Asolo/Ita-Oluwo road, in 2012, that the last political dispensation, however said that the road did not witness any uplift due to the political difference between Lagos state and federal government then.
Evangelist Famoritade, who is also a leader in Agbede community, however used the symposium to appeal on behalf of the residents of the community to Senator Ashafa for the construction and completion of the road during this political dispensation.
Speaking on Agbede-Ita Oluwo road, Evangelist Famoriyede said: “what we the people of Agbede community are asking from Senator Ashafa is the completion of our road. This is the road he moved the motion in the senate and which has been approved by the distinguish members of the senate about four years ago.
“But we learnt that because of political difference between the federal and Lagos state then, that was why money was not release for the construction of the road. So, now that both the federal and Lagos state belong to the same political party, APC, I have assured the residents of the community that the road will be constructed soon.
“We are now appealing to the senator to help us in ensuring that the road is completed this time around.”
The representative of Senator Ashafa at the symposium, Mr. Rotimi Ishola, while commending the group for putting up the event in honour of the Senator, also charged the participants at the event not to expect reward from anyone for whatever they do.
Ishola who described Senator Ashafa as one of the prophets God sent to help humanity on earth, also called on elected office holders to always aim at improving the welfare of those that vote them into office.
