Stone crushers in Ebonyi State have expressed dissatisfaction over what they termed exorbitant electricity tariff charged them by Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, in a condition of epileptic power supply.
The chairman, Ebonyi State Stone Crushers Association, Mr Stanley Ugonweze who disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Okposi Umuoghara quarry site located in Ezza North Local government area, said he had written to EEDC to register their unhappiness.
Mr Ugonweze said aside that each stone crushing stand receives monthly bill ranging from N20,000 to N30,000 from EEDC, they hardly have electricity for which purpose they were being charged.
“One of the challenges we have is electricity. We have been battling with Enugu Electricity Distribution Company and our members have been complaining about it. They bring outrageous bills without commensurate power supply.”
He said they were badly challenged because they now resort to using their individual generators most times, even when customers don’t agree with any attempt to change prices.
“For instance, if you want to crush about 10 trips a day, you will need a gas that worth more than N4000. And if you cross-check your sales at the end of the day, you will discover that you are not gaining. So the members are seeing it as a serious challenge and I have written to Enugu Electricity Distribution Company over the issue.”
He called on the state government to assist them by repairing a generating set it donated to them, which he said never worked for one day, and to also patronise stone crushers by buying stones for construction from them.
