Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong has called on the Muslim Ummah in the state to use the period of 30 days Ramadan fast to pray for peace, progress and development of the state.
He noted the challenge of the dwindling economic fortunes amidst the growing needs and expectations of the people for which the Ramadan provides a wonderful opportunity for pious prayers.
This was contained in his Ramadan – Kareem message to the entire Muslim Ummah at the commencement of the year 2015 fast in a statement signed by Emmanuel Nanle, his Director, Press and Public Affairs.
He noted that fasting and prayer bring God’s nature and way of life to mankind and enjoined Muslims to extend in fellowship God’s love to one another and to live the virtues of the Holy Prophet which distinguished him as a messenger of Allah.
The statement added: “When the world stays at peace, development is attained and freedom becomes a commodity for all.”
The Governor also called on the religious leaders to preach the message of reconciliation, peace and tolerance to the followers and called for prayer for leaders.
He assured citizens of the State that Government will continue to promote peaceful coexistence and uphold freedom of religious practice.
