National Sports Commission, NSC, may have concluded plans on the hosting of members of the victorious Golden Eaglets who represented the country at the FIFA U17 World Cup, U23 and athletes that did the country proud in 2015 as the Minister Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung said that President Muhammadu Buhari has agreed to host the sports ambassadors on January 21, in Abuja.
The Golden Eaglets won the FIFA World Cup for a record fifth times even as Victor Osimhen broke world record by scoring 10 goals at the tournament and winning the golden boot. Osimhen was also named second most valuable player at the World Cup behind teammate Kelechi Nwakali.
In the same vein, the U23, tagged Dream Team VI coached by Samson Siasia won Nigeria’s maiden African U23 Championship title and qualified for this year’s Rio Olympic Games.
Sports Minister Solomon Dalung said after the CAF awards held in Abuja that the Federal government has put up a comprehensive rewarding package for sports men and women who have done the nation proud.
According to the minister, “January 21, 2016 has been approved by President Muhammadu Buhari as the day to reward those who have made Nigeria proud. Indeed, the federal government has approved a comprehensive package for all athletes and is not limited to football but also scrabble, basketball and others that have made the country proud. The package is subject to the recommendation of Mr. President. Since it is a package, it cannot be unveiled until that day,” Dalung said.
