General Overseer of the God Liveth worldwide Ministry, Rev Soji Gbadebo, has called on the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, to come to the assistance of the country at this trying period by writing stories that promote peace and stability.
Rev Gbadebo made the call yesterday during the special thanksgiving service to commence the 2015 press week of the NUJ, Ondo State council in Akure, the Ondo state capital.
According to him, God has given the NUJ power and ability to give hope of fostering the survival of the nation through veritable information dissemination, so that Nigeria could overcome the present economic and security challenges facing her.
He posited that, writing positively on issue of the nation’s economy and security and other challenges, will go a long way in stabilising the country, adding that a lot of terrible things do happen abroad but are not reported negatively in such countries and that journalists in the country should emulate such.
Rev Gadebo challenged men of the pen profession to be bold and courageous in carrying out their legitimate duties to the people of the country without fear or favour, corrupt government official should not be covered and bad policies of the government in state and federal should be exposed and reported to the members of the public .
He added being guided by good conscience in the course of writing to inform and disseminate news to the members of the public will go a long way in giving credibility to the men of the pen profession, saying that any report a journalist writes which does not go against his or her conscience is a good one that pleases God.
Speaking during his opening speech, the Chairman Ondo Council of NUJ, Mr. James Sowole, used the occasion to implore the National Assembly to focus on bills that will be beneficial to Nigerians rather than trying to pass bills that will hinder the free flow of information and gag members of the public and the press
Mr. Sowole admonished journalists in the country to play the game according to the rules guiding it.
He urged members of the union to come together and be united for the development of the union in the state.
