A group known as Nigerian Professionals has endorsed Senator Kabiru Gaya for the position of Senate Majority Leader in the 8th National Assembly.
The group premised their support on, “His performance in restoring sanity in Rivers State when the state was in turmoil over local issue”, explaining: “We make bold to say that a senator of his calibre that comes from the zone where the senate majority leader was zoned to, will be a plus for the APC and the Buhari led government if elected.”
They therefore appealed to the APC and senators to have a rethink to support the former Kano governor for the position.
“We appeal to APC to prevail on Senator Ahmed to be a team player and drop his ambition of senate leader as others have declared their intention on the position before him”, stated, reminding APC and the senators about the role of Senator Gaya in the formative times of the party.
In a statement signed by its President, Engr. Alphonsus Iginiware and made available to newsmen in Kaduna, the group which cuts across all professions, including soldiers said a situation where national offices of the assembly are being allocated to certain politicians ahead of others that have played significant roles in the formation and victory of the party will continue to cause disaffection in the party.
“The apex chamber, the senate, if not properly managed, could cost the country the hard earned, sixteen years unbroken democracy in the country.
“We warn that encouraging the growth of bad blood which the situation is generating is not healthy; and therefore advise the APC and the federal legislators to revert to the Senate Standing Order and internal democracy for the country to move forward.
The professionals called on the senators to close ranks and ensure that the red chamber under the leadership of Bukola Saraki gives Nigerians the expected change that has been the mantra of the APC even prior to the 2015 elections.
The professionals further warned that a lot was been expected from the Buhari administration by Nigerians, adding that posterity would hold them accountable if Nigerians are not given the promised change.
