Following media reports on the missing 21 children of Madonna Angels Community Children’s Home (orphanage) in Atani community, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, the proprietress of the home, Rev Sr. Marthina Uyanne has opened up.
At the orphanage, 14 pregnant girls were rescued by the police while DSS conducted a raid.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr Victoria Chikelu confirmed the development but did not speak further, as she said she was in the Exco meeting then.
But when contacted on telephone, Rev. Sr. Uyanne, who runs the orphanage, debunked the allegations levelled on her.
Although she agreed that the orphanage had been closed by the Anambra State government, she absolved herself of any wrong doing, accusing her traducers of wanting to use her children for rituals.
Her words: “The story is not true. What happened was that the Ministry of Women Affairs wanted to close it and I said that my children would not go to where they would use them for rituals or sell them; so I called their owners to come and pick them. Many of these children are from Atani here.
“It is false. I don’t sell children. The owners of the children have come and picked them. The orphanage was closed down by the government and I wouldn’t like to disobey the government. There are no more children in the orphanage.”
But on the allegation that she kept boys and girls who made babies for the orphanage, she prayed fire and brimstone on her accusers.
Her prayers: “The God I serve will punish those people. I don’t chase men or sleep around with men. So how can I do that? I can’t encourage such. There was no way I could have brought young boys and girls to be making babies for me. The living God that I serve will punish those people who are accusing me wrongly. I’m saying this with anger and bitterness in my heart.”
When contacted on telephone, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Uche Eze said he had no information about that, saying that he would find out. He also told this reporter that he would be handing over to a new PPRO that would take over from him.
