Zonal Coordinator of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism, NIHOTOUR, Mr. Wale Odeyemi has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to provide more financial support for the institute.
Odeyemi , who is also a lecturer at the institute, told the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Lagos that the institute had been underfunded in the past.
He said that the institute needed more funding to upgrade its teaching materials and kitchen equipment.
‘’ We need to change most of our kitchen utensils that are old to modern ones.‘’ The institute will also be able to expose its students to how to use such modern equipment before graduating,’’ Odeyemi said.
The lecturer said that if the government provided the institute enough funds, it would be able to commission its staff to embark on researches into new areas of relevance to the society.
It would also be able to establish a modern library that would be stocked with local and international literatures and journals for the use of its staff and students.
From there, they could obtain modern and relevant ideas that would be beneficial to them and the institute, he said.
‘’ This will make the conduct of researches easy, and they will be abreast of the latest developments in the hospitality and tourism industry from other parts of the world.
‘’ This will further accelerate the development of the sector in the country,’’ he said.
Odeyemi also pleaded with the government to consider sponsoring the institute’s lecturers in overseas courses. NAN
