The Sokoto State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists ( NUJ ) on Saturday inaugurated a five-man Ethics and Disciplinary Committee.
Announcing this in Sokoto at a state congress, the newly elected Chairman of the council, Isa Shuni, said the move was aimed at fighting quackery and indiscipline among members.
“The committee is set up to ensure that members perform their duties diligently and according to the ethics of the profession.’’
He promised to reposition the union and give good leadership to members.
“We will give priority to welfare, training and retraining of the members.
“We will also strive to ensure that all members work objectively and in line with the efforts to sustain the peace and unity of the nation,” Shuni said.
The NUJ chairman lauded the state government for the ongoing renovation of the union’s Press Centre in the state capital.
Shuni pledged to sustain the existing cordial relationship between the union and the state government.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Shehu Jatau and Aminu Shehu, will serve as chairman and secretary of the committee respectively.
Other members are Abba Kurmawa, Ahmed Wurno and Aminu Sabongarin-Dole.( NAN)
