After ten years in Abuja, organisers of the Queen of Aso pageant have decided to expand the horizon of the event by taking it to Nigeria’s commercial and entertainment nerve centre, Lagos.
Speaking to newsmen in Abuja, CEO of the event, Desmond Agboola said the 2016 event will commence in Lagos, before it berths in Abuja, the host city for the grand finale.
“The 11th edition will tour Lagos State from Monday July 25, to Monday, August 1 for camping activities which includes visit to different tourist centres, cooking competition, cultural display, novelty football match targeted at kicking against rape, and a preliminary fashion show to round up activities in Lagos before flying the contestants back to Abuja for the grand finale at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
According to Desmond, the preliminary fashion show will hold on Sunday July 31, at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos with Governor Akinwunmi Ambode as Chief Host,
He added: “Top 10 Nigerian designers will showcase their 2016 collections, and 10 Nigerians will also receive the prestigious Aso Outstanding Award, 2016.”
Speaking on the import and contributions of the programme to society, Agboola boasted: “The prestigious Queen of Aso Nigeria beauty pageant is all about humanity and helping the less privileged in the society. The queens have in the past distinguished themselves through various pet projects over the years to help ordinary Nigerians on the street.
The winner of the pageant this year will go home with a brand new car, an opportunity to represent Nigeria at the 2016 Miss Africa Beauty Pageant, modelling contracts, and endorsement deals with multi-national companies, plus a 1.5million naira education grant.
