Following the verdict of the Kogi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal which upheld the election of Alhaji Yahaya Bello as the duly elected Governor, Kogi Journalist Forum, KJF, has called on stakeholders to join hands with him to move the state forward.
KJF, an umbrella body of all journalists of Kogi State extraction practicing in Kaduna, in a statement, said the verdict is a clear testimony that the circumstance surrounding the political development in the state was divinly arranged.
The statement jointly signed by Olu Ajayi and Baba Negedu, Chairman and Secretary respectively, noted that “With the pronouncement of the tribunal which laid to rest the controversy on the legality of the process that brought Bello to power, there is no doubt that he has been empowered by law to deliver service to the people.
“KJF which has been following with keen interest the development in Kogi State since the beginning of political hostilities is pleased with the peace and stability that greeted the tribunal’s verdict. The maturity exhibited by the people shows that they have come of age and their body language is a tacit vote of confidence on the present administration which should be given the needed cooperation to show the people what it can do in the next four years.”
They congratulated the governor for his victory at the tribunal, adding that “it is our hope and prayer just like his initial steps has shown that he would take the whole state as his constituency and settle down to begin to provide the much needed dividends of democracy that had eluded the people.
“This also is an opportunity for Kogites within and outside the state to immediately rally round the governor and his team to take the state to the next level. He must settle down to begin to deliver on his campaign promises and all well meaning Kogites should rally round him.
“We believe that the Kogi project is paramount to all and that is why it is expedient for all stakeholders to join hands with the governor. We are happy that Bello has called on all stakeholders including those that challenged his emergence in court to join hands with him to move the state forward, we believe that this is the way to go.
“We must commend the governor for his sense of fairness and equity in the sharing of political appointments, this is a good development and we urge him to continue in that stead, as it is one of the ingredients needed to bring the state together, ensure equitable development and peaceful co-existence.”
