In line with engaging Christian youths in meaningful endeavours, the Pastor in charge of Redeemed Christian Church of God, FCT Province 7, Pastor Mattew Sule has expressed his readiness to expose young men in professional soccer action in the coming football seasons.
Speaking to Nigerian Pilot Sports last weekend, when his province hosted a football competition which dove-tailed to final between Elshaddai zone and Recharge Center Pastor Sule underscored the need for Youths to embrace sports as a means of livelihood.
According to him, “We will consider approach any of the National leagues to register our own team in the future and use it as an avenue to spread the gospel by engaging Young ones on the street.”
At the end of final soccer competition tagged PICP Challenge Cup, Elshaddai football emerged champions of the second edition of the youth football competition after defeating Recharge Centre..
Elshaddai side had won the first edition which held last year.
In this year’s edition, Mashood Oyekomi gave Elshaddai first lead in the 29 minutes with superb solo effort and all efforts by Recharge Centre to equalise the goal come short of the target no thanks to Elshaddai’s goalkeeper, Emmanuel Udoh who was superb for his side.
At the resumption of the second half, Recharge Centre continued to mount pressure on Elshaddai’s defense area in search of equaliser and finally got their effort paid off in the 65th minutes when Gayus Samuel scored to level up.
Both teams continue to impress and entertaining the guest, but mother luck appear to be simply against the Recharge Centre as they could not convert their chances and conceded penalty three minutes to the end of the match which Iboku Ojo converted to send his teammate and supporter to wild jubilation.
Talking about the essence of the torunament the pastor In charge of Social Corporate Responsibility, CSR of the church, Pastor Kolawole Adebisi said it was aimed at fish out talents for the country together with spreading the gospel
He added “It is to fish out talents and help the youths who have little or nothing doing to see how we can make them useful to their people and the society. Through this competition we can get them engage and from here some of them could enter into football that could further launch them to greater thing tomorrow.
“With that unemployment, youthful restiveness would reduce and we would have peace in the society.
We also use it to spread the work of evangelism. Some of them who are footballers but not yet born again, we use the opportunity to speak to them and get them become the followers of Christ.”
