As reactions continue to trail the Supreme Court Verdict that upheld the election of Rivers State Governor, Barr. Nyesom Wike on Wednesday, one of the contestants to Government House, Prince Tonye Princewill have joined in congratulating the governor.
Princewill, who was the flagbearer of the Labour Party in statement issued in Port Harcourt, yesterday said though his feelings about the outcome of the April 2015 elections remained unchanged, Rivers people must give the governor the needed support to move the state forward.
While hailing President Muhammadu Buhari for not interfering in the process, he argued that the All Progressives Congress underestimated the People’s Democratic Party.
“The premature celebrations, the subtle but illegal campaigns and the frenzied decampings on the strength of a foregone conclusion, showed an immaturity that must have especially insulted the court. I am sure the post mortem will reveal that APC underestimated them. We all did. But APC could not have afforded to. And not to this extent. I cannot help but feel all is not well within the APC. Once again, time will tell.
“Let me close by sending my warm congratulations to Nyesom Wike for his victory in the courts. I wish him well. My prayer is that our governance rises above our politics. Be magnanimous. God gave him this victory. The same God can take it away, if it will protect His people. I would also want to thank President Buhari for proving his critics wrong. Both the Rivers and Bayelsa elections could have been tampered with, but they were not. Previous party leaders may have not been so disposed. This is a lesson for all of us”, he stated.
Also, candidate of the PDP for the forthcoming Rivers State House Assembly re-run election in Degema Constituency, Hon. Doctor Farah Dagogo, has described the Supreme Court judgement as victory for the people of Rivers State and lovers of democracy.
Farah, who lost at the tribunal and appeal in a statement, yesterday, said by upholding Wike’s election, the Apex court has proven its status as the last hope of the common man and commended Rivers people for remaining resolute and firm while the election litigation lingered.
Similarly, the Special Adviser to Wike on Lands and Survey, Sir, Chief Barr, Anugbum Onuoha JP who also congratulated the governor, said the victory will aid the governor’s drive for a sustainable and better atmosphere for human and social development in the state.
He described the verdict as the handiwork of God upon Rivers State. He called on politicians to shun division and help the governor build a better Rivers State.
