Nigeria Customs Service, Public Relations Officer, Mr. Wale Adeniyi, on Tuesday said that the reform concerning screening of certificates and employment letters of officers was a routine.
Adeniyi said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria NAN, in Lagos.
He said that officers were complying with the directive of the Comptroller- General of Customs, Retired Col. Hameed Ali, to submit their particulars for vetting.
He said that the service embarked on the exercise to ensure that qualified persons were retained in the service.
“The level of adherence by the affected officers to the directive is encouraging.
“Customs is an organisation that is daily in contact with the public. The officers are level-headed and proactive personnel are expected to man the offices,’’ Adeniyi said.
According to him, the comptroller-general’s directive to senior officers to produce their certificates and letters of employment should not attract any public concern, as it is customary.
He said, `It was the turn of the high echelon to be re-examined and next in the line might be the rank and file.’’
