Borno state Police command has refuted some media reports going around that the women that were released alongside University of Maiduguri Lectures by Boko Haram following a negotiation between them and the Federal Government were policewomen.
The state Commissioner of Police, Damain Chukwu made the clarification at a monthly press briefing at the Conference Hall of the Command headquarters, Maiduguri, he said; “to avoid any doubt, APNo70671, Inspector Fatsuma Saleh who is a close friend of the Late Sergeant Rahila Antikirya is the only serving police woman missing alongside FNo49976, Abubakar Haruna of the State intelligence Bureau who is also missing. Others were friends and relations who took the advantage of the space in the Police lorry were also ambushed”.
He said the released women are relations and friends of the deceased, Sergeant Rahila Antikirya and not police officers nor their wives. He stressed that FNO 347543, Sgt. Bala Tiseh of the state Intelligence Bureau is the only policeman that was killed in the ambush.
According to him, the friends and relations of the late Sergeant Rahila whose body was been conveyed to her home town, Lassa for burial were ambushed by Boko Haram terrorists about 36 kilometers away from Maiduguri along Maiduguri -Biu road.
He called on media organizations to always cross check facts before going to press and the general public to be guided.
While reviewing the operation of the command in the last one month, CP Chukwu paraded One Abubakar Ali of Shuwari ward, Maiduguri for pouring hot water on the face of his wife.
Confessing his action, the suspect, Abubakar Ali said he had a misunderstanding with his first wife of 8 years old, Falmata Bukar Zannah who was nursing an 18 days old baby, while she was preparing breakfast, in the process he pour hot water on her face, where she sustained serious injury.
The police commissioner who said the wife was rushed to the State Specialist Hospital and is receiving attention and that investigation into the case is still going on, adding that as soon it is completed, the husband will be charged to court.
During the period under review, the command has also recovered one GPMG with five rounds of ammunitions from Boko Haram terrorists who held hostage some Fulani herdsmen at Galte bush in Shuwari ward of Nganzai local government of Borno state. The terrorist were engaged in a gun battle on February 2, following a tip off where they fled and abandoned the arms.
“On February 3, at about 18:00hrs, one Abubakar Umar of London Ciki are, Maiduguri was arrested by SARS operative in possession of a green coloured Honda Civic with Reg. No. AT 815 FGE. The suspect confirmed the vehicle was stolen at Kofar Nassarawa arewa, Kano, he also confessed to stealing several other vehicles both within and outside Maiduguri metropolis and sold them to some individuals, investigations into this are still going on,” CP Chukwu stated.
“Also on February 4, at about 10:30 hours following a tip off by SIB operatives, one Mikano and one Lister 17 KVA generating sets suspected to be stolen from MTN service point in Marte, Marte LGA were recovered in a rented apartment at Bolori area, Maiduguri and evacuated to the command headquarters. On January 15 at about 16:30 hours, three persons armed with Dane guns were arrested when they attacked the resident of Ibrahim Isah of Malam Aminari village of Mobbar LGA and carted away valuable property and unspecified amount of money.
The police Boss further stated that during the period under review, an armed bandit was also killed while one AK 47 rifle was recovered. He pointed out that a Vibe Space Wagon with Registration No. MYM70 AA stolen in Kano was also recovered.
