CHIEF of Army Staff, COAS, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, has charged troops fighting Boko Haram in North-East Nigeria to remain focused until they crushed the terrorists. General Buratai gave the charge yesterday when he declared closed a 3-day “Combat Support Arms Training Week 2016”, held at Maimalari Barracks in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. The army chief further charged the troops to explore the best ways of carrying out their roles by emphasising synergy so as to maximise scarce resources, noting that the battle against insurgency in the North-East had thrown up a lot of challenges, but expressed satisfaction that the efforts were yielding positive results. He said, “We should not rest on oars until the counter- terrorism and counter- insurgency operations are brought to a conclusive end and peace restored to the region and the entire country. The theme of the training is, “Countering Assymetric Warfare in the 21st Century: The role of the Combat Support Arms”, and Buratai described it as apt, pointing out that it was in line with his vision for a professionally trained army for effective discharge of its constitutional roles.
