Member representing Mangu/Bokkos Federal Constituency, Solomon Maren, has described the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, as a vibrant leader that had demonstrated commitment to quality representation by inclusion.
“The Speaker has tried to carry everyone along; he wants to ensure that no one is left out. He is one leader that we believe will take democracy to greater heights,’’ he said in Jos yesterday.
Maren told reporters that the quest towards ensuring equal treatment for all members, irrespective of political lineage, would promote rapport and unity among lawmakers.
He advised lawmakers to de-emphasise political differences, saying issues must be tackled with patriotic fervour.
According to him, the Speaker’s legislative experience over time has placed him in a good position to appreciate issues, adding that his foresight had helped him to stabilise the House.
The lawmaker also advised lawmakers to work towards a united country, adding that all should emphasise the need for peace, growth and rapid development.
“Once we are guided by an agenda of national growth and work toward it, progress will be achieved and everyone will be happy. As for me, I have 100 per cent confidence in the Speaker; I see in him a true and focused leader and a democrat, and I think all PDP members in the House share this sentiment too.
“For the first time in our history, Mr. Speaker has brought before members the budget of the House for us to discuss and together decide how monies should be spent. I have never seen this high level of transparency before.
“This calibre of person needs to be accorded all the needed support and cooperation to move this country forward. With him, there will be a vibrant Eighth Assembly at the lower chamber and our nascent democracy will be well nursed with a lasting political culture and stability,’’ he said.
