House of Representatives yesterday called on the federal government to immortalise late football icons, Stephen Keshi and Amodu Shuaibu, in the bid to encourage younger ones to give their best to the development of sports in the country.
This is as the House mandated its Committee on Sports to liaise with the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, to ensure immediate payment of the entitlements due to the families of Keshi and Shuaibu.
The House resolution followed a motion on matters of urgent public importance sponsored by Hon. Samuel Onuigbo.
While describing their demise as a huge loss to the country and their families, Onuigbo stated that the two icons served Nigeria meritoriously.
On Shuaibu, he expressed concern that he was being owed arrears by the federal government and the Edo State government when he worked as the director of the state youth football agency.
“These iconic Nigerians exercised leadership in football administration and impacted positively on the nation and on the world in ways that their outstanding accomplishments brought happiness to Nigerians.
