Chairmen of the All Progressives Congress, APC in 28 states, including the Federal Capital Territory, FCT at the weekend advised the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki to always respect the supremacy of the party.
The Chairmen, at a meeting held with Saraki at the National Assembly complex in Abuja, said upholding the supremacy of the party by all leaders and in particular, elected political office holders on its platform as contained in the party’s constitution, would help in strengthening the party.
Led by the chairman of Kano State chapter of the APC, Alhaji Umaru Haruna Dogawa, the chairmen commended the senate president for finding time to attend the party’s national executive council, NEC meeting , which according to them had put detractors of the party in shame.
However, Chairmen of APC from the South West zone of the country were absent at the meeting held after the NEC meeting where the members passed vote of confidence on the party’s national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.
Dogawa said, “We are also here to thank you having time to attend today’s NEC meeting which going by its outcome, was well organized, peaceful and successful and invariably out detractors of our great party in shame”.
He did not give any reason why his counterparts from the South West shunned the meeting with the senate president, but observers were quick to link it to the the crisis rocking the APC following the emergence of Saraki as President of the 8th Senate and Hon. Yakubu Dogara as Speaker of House of Representatives last month.
Responding, Saraki who along with Dogara, had after the NEC meeting, went into a marathon meeting with APC governors at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge, thanked the Party Chairmen for the meeting and hinted that soonest, the needed peace will prevail in the party.
He assured the states Chairmen of his commitment to the party, saying “we will leave up to expectations of Nigerians from us, we shall deliver on the promises made and surely demonstrate our commitment to the party by not abandoning it in anyway”.
The Senate President added that the 8th National Assembly under his leadership, shall cooperate fully with President Muhammadu Buhari in the delivery of dividends of democracy to Nigerians.
“There is no alternative, Buhari must succeed”, he declared.
