National Coordinator of the Odua People Congress ,Chief Gain Adams has again emphasized the urgent need for the restructuring of the Nigerian nation for her sustainability in the commit of nations .
He said that restructuring is the only hope for the survival of the country as a single entity.
Gani Adams stated this yesterday at the NUJ Press Centre Alagbaka Akure, Ondo State capital ,while delivering a lecture title Herds men /Farmers clashes in Nigerian Organised by the Ondo NUJ to mark this year democracy day.
According to him without the full implementation of the National Conference Nigeria will not make any progress in nation’s development and sustainability
He said that the report of the Confab extensively deals with how to eradicate the Herdsmen/ Farmers clashes.
The OPC coordinator also said that other recommendation of the confab like Creation of state police is also an important factor in looking for a lasting solution to the nation security problems including Fulani Herdsmen/Farmers clashes in the country.
He lamented that state governors in the country that are regarded as Chief Security Officer in their various state are toothless bulldog who cannot defend themselves talk less of defending their citizens.
He said no availability of state police encourage herdsmen to be carrying weapons to commit various crime and there is nobody to challenge them ,saying the Nigerian Police are handicap to checkmate their activities because of the order from above.
He said with the introduction of state police most state will have the opportunity of self defence from the heartless herdsmen who will not only destroyed farmlands but also commit criminal activities
Gani Adam ,said he was disappointed in the attitude of President Muhammadu Buhari for not saying anything concerning the activities of herdsmen in the country during his democracy speech to the nation which the Global Terrorist index described as the number four deadliest group in the world and further disclosed that record shows that the Fulani herdsmen
killed 2000 people in conflict between them and their host communities in 2015.
The OPC leader descried a situation where a group of supposed herdsmen carrying sophisticated weapons wipe out an entire community and the president of the country is silent about it.
“the so call unity of Nigeria nations is indeed threatened.”he warned.
He therefore called on President Buhari to do something urgently on the menace of the herdsmen in the country before they turned to another Boko Haram.
