No fewer than four persons have been shot dead and many others sustained bullet wounds following a clash between two rival cult groups in Ebonyi state, according to investigation.
But the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP George Okafor, who confirmed the development simply said “about four or five persons have been killed.
Nigerian Pilot gathered that the clash which has spread all over the state started in Ebonyi State University community, the week final year students finished their final exams.
The first victim was said to have been killed while staging his graduation party at one of the hostels at Ishieke annex of the university which sources said sparked of the bloody clash that has left many dead both in the university community and Abakaliki town.
Since the first incident, the rival cult groups have been on rampage.
Some of the victims shot dead include, a 35year-old- man and bear palour owner, Amaechi Ude from Enugu State who resided in Abakaliki where he was doing his drinking joint business; Sunday Onwe of Ohaukwu local government area of Ebonyi State as well as a staff of Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki whose name could not be immediately ascertained.
Ude was killed in his bear palour at Isiuke lane off Norom Street Abakalik while Onwe was shot in a drinking joint identified as yori yori located close to Ebonyi State School of Health Technology in Ngbo court in Ohaukwu LGA.
Ude was sitting in his bar around 7pm when two unidentified gunmen who operated on a motor bike shot him.
The incident forced customers who were already having their good time in the bar to flee while the victim was rushed to hospital where he was confirmed dead.
The third victim was swooped and shot three times on the head at Abakaliki township stadium where he went to play football.
Onwe, on the other hand was in a birthday party with his friends at the yori yori joint when hoodlums invaded the area and shot him on the chest and he gave up the ghost instantly.
The Chairman of Ohaukwu local government area, Barr Clement Odaah, who confirmed the killing of Onwe the younger brother of Ngbo Central Development Centre Coordinator, Ofobuike Onwe said he has reported the matter to the police.
“The police are already investigating the matter and some persons have been arrested in connection to the killing.
“More persons will be arrested and I’m assuring the people that all the perpetrators will be brought to book’’, he said.
The State Police Public Relations Officer who particularly named Amechi Ude as one of the people killed said when the command got a distress call from Ude’s family over the incident, policemen were sent to the scene and that before they could get there, the hoodlums had already fled.
