African Students Union Parliament, ASUP, has presented its prestigious Pan-African Servant Leadership award of Icon of Nation Building to the managing director of the Anambra-Imo River Basin Development Authority, AIRBDA, Engr. Patrick Allen Okereafor, in recognition of his outstanding record of achievements in the organisation.
The students union parliament also presented an award of Corporate Mandate Delivery to the management and staff o AIRBDA for keeping faith with its mission and vision of rendering service to its host community and the nation at large.
Presenting the awards last weekend at the AIRBDA office, Agbala in Owerri North LGA, majority leader of ASUP, Hon. Edem Daboe Ayih Kudojo of Universite Gnassigbe Eyadema De Lome, Togo, on behalf of the group said that the leadership award was given to Engr. Okereafor to encouraging him to do more.
Kudojo, who represented the speaker of the parliament, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Coulibaly, noted that ASUP had continually taken its time to scrutinize African leaders at various levels and in the course of time discovered Engr. Okereafor as one “who committed his time to serve the common good in accordance to the pan- Africanism ideology.”
Earlier, the deputy clerk of ASUP, Comrade Ozim Temple of the Federal University of Technology, Minna in Niger State, called on President Mohammadu Buhari to encourage the management of the river basin authority to excel and even elevate the MD to a great height.
Responding, Engr. Okereafor thanked the union for the award, saying he never knew that people like African students were watching and reckoning his modest contributions towards the development of society via his office as the boss of AIRBDA.
He urged the students to remain committed in recognizing excellence and warned them against losing focus on their purpose of being in the tertiary institutions stressing that society looks up to them with optimism, for a better Africa in the near future.
Also speaking, the executive director, Planning and Design, Mrs Angelina Chimezie and Mr Kingsley Nnoshiri, executive director IServices), on behalf of the staff and management congratulated their MD for the rare award, stating that it was well deserved.
They noted that Engr. Okereafor’s sterling leadership qualities and style made possible the achievements recorded by AIRBDA in a short time and reaffirmed the loyalty of the entire staff to his administration.
Highlight of the event was the formal presentation of the awards to Engr. Okereafor and the staff and management of Anambra-Imo.
